Welcome to the KES Literacy Room!

The Literacy Room is staffed by a Literacy Specialist, Amy Danusis, and a Literacy Assistant, Amanda Roffman. Working as the Literacy Team, we support the teachers as they implement the KES Language Arts curriculum. You will find us working within the classrooms during Readers and Writers Workshop, teaching guided reading lessons in small groups, and providing one-on-one instruction to individual students. We are glad we can be here to support KES students as they acquire the knowledge they need to become skilled readers and writers. Reading is the way to grow!

Response to Intervention

Kensington Elementary School uses a Response to Intervention (RTI) framework to address the literacy needs of our students. RTI is an approach to instruction that provides intervention and support to all students at increasing levels of intensity based on their individual needs. The goal is to prevent problems and intervene early so that students can become successful readers and writers. The progress of all students is monitored three times a year with the use of curriculum based measures.
